DJ Masters Academy was founded in April 2023 by our esteemed owner and instructor, Frankie Jaconetti, who has been in the DJ business for over 30 years. The idea was born after Frankie, who was working at his “day job” as a Supervisor for the Department of Sanitation, rang a homeowner’s doorbell to give a ticket and found an old friend on the other side of the door. They got to catching up and she mentioned how her nephew, Anthony, who has special needs, was interested in learning how to DJ. Frankie, who loves teaching, immediately agreed to take Anthony under his wing. He started by taking him out to gigs, showing him how to set up and break down equipment, mix beats, select songs, MC and so much more. Once he realized how therapeutic DJing and music in general can be, he thought “why not bring this to a wider audience?” And that’s when DJ Masters Academy was formed, first offering lessons out of local restaurants before expanding to our own space.
After giving our first lessons in April 2023, we quickly expanded, holding our first showcase in June of that year. The talent of our students garnered great interest and an article was published in the Staten Island Advance, which was picked up by national and internation newspapers. We received interest in our program from around the world but one place in particular was close to home. We received an inquiry from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District and, after working to develop a 12-week program, became an enrichment course that is now offered through the school.
Since then we have partnered with We Rock the Spectrum on Victory Blvd, offering lessons in that space several days a week, while also opening our own location on Main Street in Tottenville, where we offer lessons 7 days a week.
